A few years ago, Velvet wasn’t considered a luxury and didn’t fit in the high fashion category. Would you pay for a $3000 USD bag made from velvet or leather?
Leather, of course.
Nevertheless, Chanel took the lead. They redesigned the Classic Flap Bag in Velvet and launched in 2014. And like always, when a new idea is introduced, the fashion world will have its doubt. But when pressed on, which is what Chanel always does, ultimately it becomes a trending item.
Dior never thought about making their iconic handbag with Velvet, until today.
What’s wrong with Velvet?
Well, nothing actually. Velvet creates a different experience than leather. It’s softer and lighter. The material is also less expensive than leather. However, Velvet is harder to maintain, as it’s more fragile and more difficult to clean.
Dior finally launches the Lady Dior Bag in Velvet, but you wouldn’t notice a thing if you don’t zoom-in to look clearer. And also, they introduce a new DIOR Charm (no, not the stiff DIOR charm). It’s the same original smooth version, but the letters are decorated with rhinestones in the center, which gives more attention because it shines.
The Mini Lady Dior Bag is measured 17 x 15 x 7 cm and priced at $2400 USD, €2550 EUR, £2400 GBP, ¥37000 JPY, ₩4050000 WON via Dior boutiques.
